(Matteo’s teachers have been joking that he must have eaten a lot of turkey over Thanksgiving weekend because he came back to school with such a big belly.)

One of Matt’s favorite books as a kid was ‘Go Dog Go’. We have a copy of the original, but we also have a copy of the abridged board book for Matteo. Without any prompting from Matt, Matteo quickly claimed that book as one of his own favorites and wants us to read it to him all the time.

The last page is a picture of a big dog party in a tree, and whenever we get to that page, we always read that line in a really excited voice like, “A DOG PARTY!!!! YEAH!!!!”

The other night after his bath, Matteo grabbed ‘Go Dog Go’, sat down, and started reading it himself.

Remember last week when I was all, “Boo hoo my baby can’t stack rings on a pole! Wah wah wah!” ?

Here he is in the paint store on Sunday.

That kid is stacking things like nobody’s business!

The latest:

the throw and chase trick

Last week, before the great fever of 2010 struck (it’s still here, unfortunately) Matteo’s favorite new trick was to throw something and then crawl after it – over and over again. Last week he was doing this all throughout the house and this week he barely wants to sit up, poor baby.

Still working on crawling, but he mastered this one this week.

the rolling around but not really getting anywhere trick

Matteo isn’t crawling yet but has started spinning around in circles and rolling himself from place to place. He’s becoming increasingly frustrated with his own limitations, however. Spinning and rolling just aren’t good enough, this baby wants to MOVE.

the solid food eating trick

He did it! I cooked up a nice fat acorn squash last night for Matteo and he gobbled it up like a champ. It took him a little while to get the hang of it all but by the end he was chowing down.

Last night we also moved him out of the bassinet in our room to his own crib. He slept from 8:30 to 5 – a new record! Holy cow this kid is growing up fast. What’s he going to be doing next, packing his bag for college?
